Who is SIMunich? SIMunich is a Munich-based company made up of expats who, when they first arrived in Munich many years ago, had no idea about the minefield of bureaucracy that awaited them. Things like registering in Munich, getting a work permit, finding suitable health insurance.

The list seemed endless. We were given advice, but not necessarily by the right people, and in many cases it proved costly advice. If only we had known then what we know now. Hindsight is 20/20 vision!

Some of these examples included taking unsuitable health insurance, where some paid for extra costs which were not needed, like having a specialist doctor perform a standard operation. Or having fully comprehensive car insurance for a 10 year old car when 3rd party fire and theft insurance would have sufficed.

How could we find English speaking doctors in Munich? What about opening a bank account, or finding a suitable school for the children. Who can help with all of that?

So many questions and so much paperwork to go through. Of course if you are fluent in German, then all of this is less daunting, but for the average expat, this was often the long road to nowhere as we found out!

We want to help people learn from our mistakes and be able to have a similar starting point as native Germans do. So many foreigners do not understand that they too can get many of the government benefits a German native does, such as tax savings or pension benefits.
